Can boot to partitioned drive, never issues and works 100%.no 1000% of the time. Smooth transition, imaging transitioning is great.can't complain. Had ordered 2, now 7 more.giving some to my group/techs as Xmas gifts along with USB B to C adapters. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos.

My unit came with an ASmedia ASM1153 (not to be confused with the ASM1153E) controller.

After some research I found that this old iMac is capable of running Sierra (10.12.x) and made a few attempts to upgrade. Model: iMac11,2 (Core i3-550, MC509LL/A) It was shipped with Snow Leopard 10.6.4, and I managed to update to 10.6.8 via Apple Software Update. P2p programs for mac. I noticed that I must first upgrade it to Lion (10.7.5) or El Capitan (10.11.6), both of which are no longer available from the Mac App Store.

Here is the review of Seagate Backup Plus Slim a 2TB Portable External Hard Drive. I bought this as I had already used up the space on my Laptop with 1TB HDD. This Seagate Backup Plus Slim video.

That E at the end of the model makes a difference between whether the controller is SATA300 vs SATA600. Consequently if you put an SSD into this enclosure you won't be able to see its full potential since the chipset maxes out at 300 MB/sec, which is slower than modern SSD's which are around 500-550 MB/sec (the good ones at least).

Rotational hard drives can't come close to 300 MB/sec so it makes economic sense why there's such an old controller in the enclosure. I also found that some of my higher capacity 2.5' rotational drives wouldn't spin up because they weren't getting enough power. I ended up putting in my 10 year old 200 GB internal hard drive from my MacBook Pro 4,1.

These re-purposed enclosures are held together with clips and adhesive strips. OWC does such a great job taking apart the enclosures that the adhesive strips are still mostly intact, which means that if you ever want to swap drives again, the adhesive strips will make it difficult to disassemble.

I ended up removing all the adhesive before putting in the drive - the clips do a good job of keeping it together, even without the adhesive. Overall, I'm happy to have a cheap enclosure house one of my old hard drives. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos. This was a sale item from which the original drive had been removed. There was minimal damage to the case from the disassembly process (as with many inexpensive drives these days this one was not designed to be opened; OWC managed it anyway).
