Maybe I was just unlucky, but I couldn't open steam, the Radeon driver installer couldn't detect my card, and apples boot camp software wouldn't download. I was thrilled to see the offer of free Windows 10, installed it and the difference is exactly what I wanted. The only glitchy thing I found was installing the sound drivers. Apple’s installer that they offer for the Windows 10 drivers complains that it only works with Windows 7.

Sidestepping the obvious “Whaaaa?”, I drilled down in the folders of Apple’s driver installer iso, found the drivers for the sound, and installed them independently. Sound works great now. I’m very pleased with my 10 install. You can still install Windows 7 via Bootcamp.

The tool no longer fetches the proper drivers for your USB stick but you can still download the relevant drivers from Apple. Use the following support article You will need to confirm that your device is compatible with Window 7 and has drivers for it.

As for what to use.I started with 7 and have upgraded to 10. Thus far I haven't found a good reason to roll back. Windows 10 has some bullshit like that Office 365 spam they push to the notification center but you can uninstall that. It really depends on what apps you are planning to use and how well they work with each version of Windows.
