Why Does Mac Require Better Video Card Than Pc For Diablo 3

Hey folks, just thought i would let people know - I started running D3 on my mac laptop in OSX - it ran ok, but certain areas would lag for no real reason and my resolution was the lowest possible. My laptop is about 2 years old, i partitioned out to bootcamp to play SWTOR some time ago, but i figured i'd give D3 a chance on Mac. It was disaapointing. I switch over and installed it on my Windows bootcamp partition and the performance increase is INCREDIBLE. I'm at max resolution - no lag/slow down - generally a better experience.

I'm just throwing this out there (and lots of haters will say 'Duh! Macs aren't for gamers!) and this time it is true. TDLR: INSTALL DIABLO 3 On bootcamp/windows instead of running it in your mac OS - it worked out great for me. I haven't had many problems at all with Diablo 3 on my MacBook Pro 15 inch. I think I got it in the summer of 2009. I did have a ton of framerate issues when I first started playing it, even with low settings, but then I went to System Preferences / Energy Saver / Graphics: Enable Higher performance after reading about the dual graphics cards on google. MBP has two graphics cards; one to save battery life, and another for higher performance.

I don't think this is too uncommon with unibody MBPs that are 15 or 17 inches, not sure about any predating summer of 2009. I have Mac OS X 10.6.8, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB memory. The two graphics cards that switch are NVidia GeForce 9400 (low settings, bad framerate), and with higher graphics output enabled, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. I have had almost no framerate issues with the higher performance enabled on my laptop, and it isn't a brand new one. Also, it isn't running on all low settings. I have high textures, high shadows, and high clutter. I don't have anti aliasing though.

Keep in mind this is the 15 inch MBP from 2009. I think the 15 and 17 inch variants get better graphics cards? I was sorely disappointed and hating my macbook once I got the game after being so excited, then I found this graphics card option and it's been pretty much flawless. I think I have the same MBP (summer 2009) version that you do and I was experiencing the same issues until I switched the graphic card preferences to high performance. However, my computer generates a significant amount of heat playing D3 and this leads to a slowly decreasing FPS rate as time goes on. When I just start playing (and the computer is cool) I get flawless play. After 30-40 minutes in, the computer begins to get fairly hot (~75c) and the performance suffers.
