I couldn't see using all those players. I'm trying to cut back myself. Sql db viewer for mac. I personally use VLC and Winamp the most, Real Alternative for RA media and WMP for WMA/V files. If VLC had Winamp like features or 'feel' I could probably ditch it. When I've tried playing WMV files in VLC they appear really pixelated and after a few seconds of play time they then look fine. But if I forward or rewind that pixelation comes back, that's why I chose to stick with WMP for those files. I would describe it as VLC tries to decode the WMV file and once it figures it out it works. Is this an issue with those dlls?

The --codec dmo switch can be added to a VLC shortcut where the command would read: 'C: Program Files VideoLAN VLC vlc.exe' --codec dmo or from your Run menu or from a DOS box, but the complete path to VLC must also be entered, like: 'C: Program Files VideoLAN VLC vlc.exe' --codec dmo This command example assumes that VLC is in the default directory. Ok, I've done it. This stuff is new to me, is this something I need to run once or each time I launch VLC? Ok, I ran that command and launched a few.wmv files and still get that pixelation/green muddy looking mess.

On one it ran fine, but on other still forwarding and rewinding yields pixelation. The threads here do not indicate if the files are WMv1 2 or 3? In the case of WMv1 or 2 the blocky tendency which you are calling pixelization is normal for a format where the key frames are spaced to far apart. VLC does NOT search to the nearest key frame when seeking within a file, therefore it can take several seconds or a scene change for this to resolve. Many of the newer encoders are placing I frames at or near the frame rate for the video. This yields much better seeking performance as in WMv3 for HD material.
